This morning around 7am I decided to take another stab at finding the Golden-winged Warbler that has been reported at Sharon Woods. While I came up short on the Golden-winged, I managed to come across a Golden-winged x Blue-winged Hybrid. It was located North of the Connector Trail across a field (that is filled with poison ivy) in the tree line. The bird was very active: moving around a lot in the top of the understory (3-4 meters up), foraging, singing a typical Golden-winged song intermittently.

Most of the coloration was indicative of a Brewster’s (yellow cap, black eye line, yellow on wings, grey back, white throat) except it had a white (rather than yellow) underparts. Some information provided by the ABA indicates that the bird might be a backcross between a F1 Brewster’s and a Golden-winged.

There was lots of other good bird activity out there this morning (see list below).

Good Birding!
