Hi all,

I birded the wet trails (Teal/Harrier) at Battelle-Darby Metro Park in
southwest Franklin County this morning. There was lots of activity. I had
two American Bitterns counter-calling, and at least three, maybe four Least
Bitterns, including one in flight. Additionally, I observed 8 different
Virginia Rails and three, maybe more, Sora. Marsh Wrens were perched up and
singing, and the Grasshopper and Henslow's Sparrows are singing north of
the big wetlands. I had a flyover Great Egret, and there were coots, a
pied-billed grebe, and five ruddy ducks in the open pond area.

The bitterns had all stopped calling by 8, so I think getting there at 6
would be ideal (I started at 7). I highly recommend knee-high waterproof
boots - water in spots on the trail was well over ankle depth.

I stopped by the Broad Street sky pond and had a handful of shorebirds,
including both yellowlegs, Spotted, and Solitary sandpipers. A brief visit
to Bolton Field did not turn up an Upland Sandpiper, although Grasshopper
Sparrows were present here, too. I managed to hear but not see the
Golden-winged Warbler at Greenlawn; had great looks at Ovenbirds right off
the lake trail at Blendon Woods, and ended things with 8 Prothonotary
Warblers and a singing Blue-winged Warbler at Area N, Hoover Reservoir.
