This is a great opportunity to remind everyone of the value of eBird, beyond just keeping track of our life lists. It makes it easy for someone like Kristie to search the eBird database for sightings, but they need to be entered in the first place.

Please, if you have stopped using eBird (or not started) because of the effort it takes, perhaps you can consider it "paying forward" to those researchers and others who are advocating for the birds we enjoy watching (yes, even CHASING from time-to-time)!

Subject: [Ohio-birds] Biggest Week/Lake Erie Area Birders - request for sharing of Black-crowned Night-Heron sightings

Hi all,

I am a graduate student at The Ohio State University investigating factors limiting the threatened population of Black-crowned Night-Herons here in Ohio, and I am writing to solicit information regarding sightings of night-herons in the Lake Erie region. I am particularly interested in reports of groups of birds, but single sightings are also helpful. I will be following BCNH reports on ebird over the coming weeks, but you are welcome to send lists directly to my email as well ([log in to unmask]).
Please include the number of birds and location of sighting (as specific as possible, GPS coordinates preferred) in your email. Any information is greatly appreciated, and feel free to contact me for more information on my research. Thanks for reading.
