POSITION SUMMARY

The Conservation Coordinator works in a program or preserve office and provides project management, research, administrative, and other general assistance to program staff working toward the achievement of protection, conservation or stewardship goals.

Please note this is a temporary position with a scheduled end date of June 2017

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The Coastal Conservation Project Coordinator provides support for coastal project management, research, and program administration, as well as other general assistance to program staff working toward the achievement of protection, conservation, and stewardship goals within the Lake Erie coastal area. May manage conservation data, participate in project planning, assist in processing contract and grant documentation, communicate with partners, and maintain manual project records. May include collecting, assembling, and analyzing various types of data, in the field or through document surveys, producing maps using GIS software and assisting in the production of reports. Some stewardship work on Conservancy lands should be expected as well as office work. This position works expansively on government grants, including reporting and managing timelines and contractors.  Position is contingent upon funding with funding currently secured through June 2017.  S/he will collaborate with other program staff to obtain funding to maintain capacity. This position will be located in The Nature Conservancy's Coastal Program office in Sandusky, Ohio.

RESPONSIBILITIES & SCOPE

Oversees contract management for restoration projects
Coordinates multiple tasks or projects in a timely manner and with attention to detail.
Assists with program budget preparation and monitoring.
The Conservation Coordinator may work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain, and under physically demanding circumstances.
Supervises no staff but may oversee and direct work of seasonal staff, program volunteers or interns.
Assists with biological monitoring; data collection, compilation and analysis.
Assists with grant writing, management and reporting
Makes day to day decisions as delegated by the supervisor.
Purchases equipment and supplies as provided for in budget and in consultation with supervisor.
Shares project information with diverse partners and audiences via standard business communications, presentations, field tours, and donor events.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree in biology, ecology, natural resources management or related field and 2 years related work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience with Microsoft Office suite and Arc GIS.
Experience managing and prioritizing tasks from multiple projects and project contacts
Experience handling standard business communications.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

2-4 years related work experience in wetland ecology and management.
Proficiency in statistical analyses of ecological data and hypothesis testing.
Proficiency in GIS analysis and mapping.
Experience in contract management.
Knowledgeable of field stewardship practices
Ability to complete tasks independently within assigned time frames.
Ability to manage multiple priorities, with assignments sometimes coming from a number of sources.
Ability to coordinate project information from multiple sources to populate databases, create reports and produce manual files.
Experience utilizing databases for data entry and report production preferred.
Strong administrative skills including attention to detail and numerical ability.
Ability to plan, administer and record results of work-team meetings and activities.
