Jason Simonis found a Western Sandpiper at Big Island WA this afternoon. It was transitioning from breeding plumage. There is a digiscoped photo on FB Birding Ohio and Ohio Chase Birds.
There was a nice assortment of shorebirds including White-rumped, Stilt, Baird's, Least, and Semipalmated sandpipers and quite a few Semipalmated Plovers. All can be seen by parking on either side of the center impoundment and walking parallel to the road along the dike toward the cluster of cypress trees. A new mudflat has formed closer to the road, though there are still plenty of shorebirds including Short-billed Dowitchers on the distant mudflat.
