I rode around the bikepaths at this Groveport MetroPark this morning, and despite the shrilling of cicadas, there was still a fair bit of bird activity. Best bird was a singing male Blue Grosbeak at the Buckeye area off Lithopolis Road, and I also had a pair of Kestrels there. The cicadas had attracted Yellow-billed cuckoos, which were calling at several spots along the bikepath, and Brown Thrashers, which were chasing cicadas at several other spots. Small flock birds, like swallows and chickadees, were conspicuously scarce despite the mild weather.
