Reports today confirm the Sabine's Gull remains at LaDue. This could be a
big weekend for visitors. PLEASE REMEMBER TO RESPECT THE BIRDS SPACE SO IT
REMAINS CLOSE FOR ALL TO SEE. Recent activity by birders walking toward the
bird and kayakers floating too close have cause all the gulls, terns,
shorebirds and Sabine's to seek peace on gravel bars far from shore. No one
gets good views when that happens.

If you are wondering if the trip to Ladue is worth the drive, consider the
following.

It has been 5 days since the Sabine's was identified by Dick Hoopes and
Kelly Kozlowski. In that time birders have spent many hours along Valley
Road (remember to look on both sides of the road) and on the 'mud' north of
the boathouse. Here's what they found:

* 30 checklists have been submitted (maybe more since there is a
delay accepting rare species) some with excellent pictures of the Sabine's
Gull

* 78 species of birds have been documented

*         7 Caspian and 1 Forster's Tern

*         6  species of raptors (7 Eagles, Red-shouldered, Red-tailed, 2
Merlin from same tree, Osprey and N. Harrier)

* 7 species of warblers (Bay-breasted, Blackpoll, Palm, Yellow, Cape
May, Yellow-rumped, Black-throated Green)

* 7 species of ducks (Mallard, A. Wigeon, Ruddy, Shoveler,
Green-winged Teal, Wood Duck, Hooded Merganser)

* 12 species of shorebirds (Stilt, Pectoral, Spotted, Solitary,
Least and Semi-palmated SP, Black-bellied and Semi-palmated Plover, Greater
and Lesser Yellowlegs, Killdeer, Sanderling)

* And the ever-present, rare and elusive Canada Goose!

Enjoy the weekend,

Matt Valencic
