I birded Conneaut and Ashtabula Harbors today. I was at Conneaut from about 8-11AM. There were a few shorebirds moving off and on. I ended up with nine species at Conneaut. Of note were American golden plover (1), buff-breasted sandpiper (1), Baird's sandpiper (2), and red knot (2). The golden plover, buff-breasted, and knots were stopped very briefly. One of the Baird's was very obliging while the other was a brief visitor. Other shorebirds were killdeer (4), semipalmated plover (13), least sandpiper (8), semipalmated sandpiper (8), and sanderling (9). There was a parasitic jaeger that was over the west breakwall. It got up and flew around a bit a couple times and then it dropped low and was not seen again. There were a few terns moving west. I couldn't make out all of them due to distance and occasional cloudy conditions, but everything I was able to ID were common terns.

Ashtabula Harbor at walnut beach actually had a lot more shorebirds, but stilt sandpiper was the only one out of the ordinary. Shorebirds found were semipalmated plover (19), black-bellied plover (10), least sandpiper (14), semipalmated plover (6), pectoral sandpiper (1), stilt sandpiper (1), and short-billed dowitcher (2). Also of note were two flocks of common mergansers totaling 23 birds. A female red-breasted merganser was also seen.
