I witnessed a similar event on August 26th.  I saw 740 robins streaming over my yard in groups of 5-12 for 30 minutes.  It was at dusk, 7:45-8:15 pm.  I was watching for nighthawks but only saw 2.  The robins were impressive, flying northeast.   This was seen by 2 of us and by another nearby neighbor.
