Three of us spent about 30 minutes this morning trying to positively ID a goose that resembled a Greater White-fronted Goose, but, not exactly! Approximately the size of a Canada Goose, with which it was associating, but lighter color overall and a pointy head, not unlike a Lesser Scaup. While studying and photographing the bird at more than 3,000 feet we found two more unusual geese and determined that we had three barnyard or seriously hybrid geese. One looked like a Belted Cow, having a black band between its feet but white chest and under tail. Glaring light and heat shimmer made digiscoping and photography with a 2000mm lens (Nikon P900) difficult.

If anyone visiting LaDue can get some good pics please share them with all.

Thanks,

Matt Valencic
