White-crowned Sparrows have been at my feeder area this week. One decided
to utilize my pond/water feature near the house while I was sitting near
the pond. It landed only a few feet from me. :) They were also singing in
the yard, along with a House Wren, several House Finches and a Field
Sparrow. Juncos showed up two days ago and have been singing in the garden,
along with several Song Sparrows. The flock of 50+ Red-winged Blackbirds
and Brown-headed Cowbirds has dwindled to about a dozen, so they must be
moving on. One group of Red-winged Blackbirds, consisting of an adult male,
an adult female, and two young males which were following the adults and
closely watching them, were here all day yesterday eating millet. A single
Killdeer had been hanging out in the yard and calling throughout the day
for the last two days.

Gone is the mixed flock of 150+ Chimney Swifts, Tree Swallows, Barn
Swallows and a few Purple Martins that stayed for about three days last
week, feeding over the fields behind the barn. And the adult male Northern
Harrier that hunted over the fields out back last week has evidently moved
on as well.

Looking forward to new arrivals.

Judy
