Hi all,
I had 1 Black Scoter flyby at Sims Park in Euclid at around 7:30 this
morning, and a raft of about 15 when I came back later at 12. Good westward
movement of ducks; mostly Red-breasted Mergansers with a few Redheads and
Pintails mixed in. The strong north winds were pushing the flights to
within 50 meters of shore.
At Conneaut, from the observation deck I saw mostly Ring-billed and Herring
Gulls, with about 20 Great Black-backed and 5 Lesser Black-backed mixed in.
All of the black-backed gulls were immature birds. On the shore south of
the observation deck, there was a first winter Franklin's Gull mixing with
the Ring-billeds and Bonaparte's.
Interestingly, I saw no loons of any species today.
Good birding,
Gautam Apte
