Greetings!
Large numbers of gulls are again congregating at the south end of Clear Fork Reservoir.
While the vast majority are Herring and Ring-billed Gulls, Clear Fork often attracts large numbers of Bonaparte's Gulls , late into the season and in recent years, it has drawn a staggering number (relatively speaking for an inland location) of Lesser Black-backed Gulls. The reservoir also attracts Iceland and Glaucous Gulls from time-to-time.
Typically the area holds anywhere from 3-5 Lesser Black-backed Gulls on a daily basis (late fall through early spring), but there have been times where 10-15 birds have been seen on a single outing. The gulls typically congregate at the south end of the reservoir, right above the dam, at dusk and then leave the area right at dawn.
Yesterday (12/02/16) I had one, adult Lesser Black-backed Gull and approximately 500+ Bonaparte's Gulls at the reservoir.
