In several stops over the past week, I've noticed a strong uptick in late-flocking crows around Columbus. Last week, I had sizeable flocks heading southwest over Westerville -- on Friday, I had over 400 pass over Heritage Park in 20 minutes. But those are small compared to the flock I saw tonight at Graceland Shopping Center in the Beechwold neighborhood of north Columbus. As I came out of a store there around 5:30, other people were standing awestruck by the huge number of crows sitting in the trees and on the roofs of buildings. I estimated 800+ in the area I could see -- birds sitting, perched, and flying up in small flocks, with only some cawing. To say the scene was Hitchcock-ian would not be an overstatement. I don't know if the birds were roosting right there, or somewhere nearby, but it was late & dark enough, that they were not going to go much further. Anyone in that vicinity noticed large numbers of crows over the past few evenings?

Rob
