I received this email (see below) and don’t have enough specific information about the birds of the City of Cleveland proper to answer it. However, I know many of you Cleveland-area birders would be most helpful with the survey. I followed the link, selected for North America, then United States and then Cleveland. It too me to the survey and when I scrolled down the list of birds I knew I would only be guessing.

Perhaps some of you would be interested and willing to contact the researcher, Fran Bonier, and complete the survey. If this were about Geauga County I would ‘be all over it’, but, alas, it isn’t!!

Subject: urban bird surveys

I am a biologist at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario. My colleague, Paul Martin, and I are studying urban birds, and are seeking help from birders and ornithologists around the globe to identify which of our focal species breed in the largest cities, worldwide.

I found your contact information on the ABA Birding News web site for Ohio. We would appreciate it if you would consider completing our survey if you are familiar with the birds of any of the cities on our list (all with populations >750,000). For example, we are seeking data for the birds of Cleveland and Cincinnati. The survey should take less than 10 minutes for one city. You can find more information about our study, a complete list of focal cities, and links to the surveys here:

Please feel free to email me with any questions, and please share this link widely!

best regards,

Fran Bonier
