I stopped at several spots in Battelle-Darby MetroPark SW of Columbus this morning, and found lots of winter 'migrants' already on the move. These are birds that move north as soon as the weather allows, and include waterfowl, jays, larks, bluebirds, sparrows, and blackbirds. Only the last group was poorly represented this morning, and the totals included:

Snow Geese - 6 were in a flock of Canada Geese that flew north over Kuhlwein wetlands
Canada Geese - lots of noisy flocks, including many headed north
Green-winged Teal - 1 was with Mallards flying around Kuhlwein wetlands
Pileated Woodpeckers - 2 were along the Terrace Trail, while another was at Cedar Ridge
Blue Jays - good #s, with flocks at many oak areas around Indian Ridge & Cedar Ridge
E.Bluebirds - small groups of 1-3 in many different areas, with a few even singing
Horned Larks - lots of flyovers at Kuhlwein wetlands
E.Towhees - small groups of 2-3 at Indian Ridge Prairie, Terrace Trail, and Cedar Ridge
Tree Sparrows - a large straggling flock of 3-=40 at Kuhlwein wetland, with singles many other places
Field Sparrow - 1 was with a mixed sparrow flock at Cedar Ridge
Swamp Sparrows - at least 2 were along the trail at Kuhlwein wetlands
White-crowned Sparrows - 2 were at Kuhlwein wetlands
White-throated Sparrows - small flocks at several locations, but no large #s
C.Grackles - singles at a few places, the only blackbird to put in an appearance this morning.
