On Saturday during the GBBC, a Merlin buzzed my back yard and landed on a post on the roof of a high rise on the next block. I got very poor photos with a handheld camera.

I thought that Greenlawn Cemetery on Romig Rd. would be a logical place for it to hang out and, sure enough, I found it there at 5:25 pm today on my way home from work! The cemetery is about 2-1/2 miles from my house, “as the Merlin flies”.

It was perched on a power line stanchion in Section E. I got a somewhat better photo today before it flew, which I’ve attached to my eBird report. I assume it will continue at the cemetery for a while…

Also for my Great Backyard Bird Count Saturday, highlights included 2 Red-shouldered Hawks and 3 Red-tailed Hawks, one of which was a high fly-over of an almost completely leucistic one that appeared to be the same bird that I photographed nearby a few years ago. I tallied 27 species over Saturday and Sunday.
