It's not exactly news, since they've been around the state for a while now.
But since it's a reasonably warm evening, and my knees don't hurt too much,
I decided to walk the quarter mile out to my "back forty," which is really
about six acres of successional field, to see if I could experience the
annual spectacle of woodcocks. It has not disappointed, since for the last
fifteen minutes I have been enjoying at least one individual peenting and
engaging in his courtship flight.

Always a delight.
