Friends and I spent a pleasant hour birding along the north shoreline of LaDue late this morning. There were several large groups of mixed ducks close to the shoreline which included several hundred each of Redhead and Ring-neck Ducks along with less than 50 each of Scaup and Coot.  Canvasback, Pintails, Bufflehead, and Pied-billed Grebes were scattered among them in single digit numbers plus modest numbers of Canada Geese and Mallards.  There was also one Horned Grebe.   The smaller ponds on the north side of the road had small numbers of Hooded Merganser, Wood Duck, and American Widgeon.
A young eagle -- third year perhaps -- flushed the ducks a couple times and while we would have enjoyed the sight of him grabbing one, he wasn't successful.
