Today I monitored activity along Old Sunbury Road at the Hoover Nature Preserve. Along a two mile section of the shore I located 15 singing male Prothonotary Warblers, several with colored leg bands. The females are now in and the birds are getting down to business. In the sunlight the males' color is intense.
Several other warbler species were observed in the area including Yellow, Yellow-rumped, American Redstart, Nashville, Northern Parula, Yellow-throated and Palm. My FOY Green Heron was lurking around an old bridge base. The local Bald Eagles were at their nest.
