I spent a mid day half hour yesterday at the Grand River Conservation Area in Painesville (Lake County) 399 Main Street - this restored habitat is just east of downtown Painesville and sits on the Grand River flood plain. In the 1060’s is was unwisely developed into two apartment complexes that were completely flooded in 2006 (that’s what happens when one builds in a flood plain….). The buildings have been demolished and the Grand River Conservancy and other organizations worked to restore this natural area - it is worth a visit - wetlands, riparian habitat, river - a good example of what restoration can look like.

I saw:
Red Shouldered Hawk (magnificent) - sometimes the pair can be seen here
Mallards
Blue jay
Robins
Grackles
Starlings
Bluebirds
Common crows
House finches
Canada geese
Red bellied woodpeckers
Song Sparrow
White breasted nuthatch

A longer visit I’m sure would yield more - this was a quick visit.
