I was able to sit on the boardwalk at the Wake Robin Trail yesterday afternoon and watch​ a Least Bittern and a Virginia Rail at close range. I saw Soras scamper through the cattails at least six times. There were also Marsh Wrens singing​ in a number of places. 

Linda Meyer McConnell later reported seeing three Least Bitterns in the evening on Facebook.

I found the Bittern because, shortly after I arrived, some women ask me to ID a bird they saw. When one showed me the photo on her phone, my eyes almost popped out. I asked her where she saw it. She showed me the place just past the pond. The bird was still there. 

I asked the woman if she did Facebook. She did. I told her to post the photos on the Ohio Birding Group page as the people there would be happy to help with IDs. I also told her she was going to make a lot of people jealous. 

Earlier that day I did the spring birdwalk at Lake Erie Bluffs. We saw the Yellow-breasted Chat and had a Northern Harrier fly by. Thanks to all the birders on that walk who made me feel welcome.
