I read on the today's Arkansas list http://birding.aba.org/maillist/AR
that birders there commend the use of lavender oil to drive away
insects; as an extra bonus, it is said to attract hummingbirds to alight
on oil on one's clothes. Better smelling than DEET, so might be worth a
try...
