Today, Monday, from about 10:30AM to about 3:00PM, I went in search of some of the county's finest nesting warblers. I began my seven miles of walking from The Teegarden Covered Bridge Trailhead parking lot. The section of paved trail I birded is about 3.3 miles of predominately hemlock/maple mature forest and follows the eastern side and above The Middle Fork of Little Beaver Creek. During my outing, I recorded 46 species of birds, and most of the specialty warblers. They were Ovenbird (2), Worm-eating (1), Louisiana Waterthrush (2), Black-and-white (1), Kentucky (2), Hooded (5), American Redstart (3),Cerulean (3), and Northern Parula (2). As an added bonus, while admiring one of the Kentucky's, a Mourning Warbler came skulking into view. The parking area is accessed off of Teegarden Road (CR411), about five miles south of the city of Salem. From the paved parking lot, which is on Eagleton Road, walk up the hill to the trail and go each direction about a mile or so. You won't be disappointed! The scenery is wonderful and you are in the shade! Better yet, bring your bicycle. The total paved trail length is about thirteen miles thru a diversity of habitats.
