I visited several ravine areas along the east shore of Hoover Reservoir - Twin Bridges, Duncan Glen, Walnut Ravine (Area S) - to see what unusual summer birds were hiding in them. The area is an extension of the ravines at Hoover, with bluffs capped by sandstone cut into forested ravines, and can have many of the same unusual birds. Included among the finds of the morning were:

Broad-winged Hawk - an adult was calling over Walnut Ravine. They're very rare summering birds near Columbus, usually in our big forest patches - Blendon Woods, Hoover Reservoir, or Alum Creek Lake.

Red-shouldered Hawk - an adult soaring over Walnut Ravine, perhaps responding to the Broad-wing

Barred Owl - a single adult was lurking in the woods at Walnut Ravine

Pileated Woodpecker - all of the ravines had them

Prothonotary Warblers - singing birds were at Twin Bridges and Duncan Glen

Louisiana Waterthrush - an adult was being followed by a juvenile at Duncan Glen, while a single adult was at Walnut Ravine

Scarlet Tanagers - 2 were song-dueling at Duncan Glen, while another was at Walnut Ravine
