I briefly had a Glossy/White-faced Ibis at Berlin Lake Monday afternoon on the spit distantly north of Price Road. The bird disappeared as I typed out a quick report. As this is to my knowledge the first of either of these species for Stark County it would be great to relocate it to pin down the ID. Best places to check would be both spits on either side of the Rt 225 bridge, south of Price Rd, Greenbower Rd, Walborn Reservoir and the Berlin Lake Wildlife area just into Portage County west of Rt 225.Berlin Lake will be outstanding for shorebirds this week. The next week should be great south from Price Rd bridge. I had 8 species there today including 3 Stilt Sandpipers. Birds are currently hidden at times by the small willows growing from the high spots in the mud but that should improve quickly. A scope is a necessity for most of the birds. Staying up on high ground in the woods allows a better view of birds hidden in the willows. By next week things should be hopping north of Price where the Ibis was today.Kent Miller
