Following the report of a Hudsonian godwit at Wright Marsh by John Seiler
at 9:20 this morning, I headed out there about 11:30am. As I walked down
the long path from the parking lot and curved to the left on the dike of
the far large pond, I passed several others coming out who had seen the
bird. Out on the dike, I met Su Snyder and Sue Evanoff. We looked for the
godwit for 30 minutes or so but did not find it. An Amish teen came along
with his scope and we all looked further. Finally, the young man spotted
bird just in the stand of lily pads trying to get some sleep. We all got on
it and eventually the bird decided to come out in the open and we got good
views about 12:30pm.

The water in the big pond is nearly gone and it is all quite good shorebird
habitat. To see the bird, walk quite a ways out the dike to where there are
stands of lily pads closer to the dike. We left two large weed stems in the
shape of an X right on the dike trail to mark the spot. It is likely that
the bird will stay around that area for awhile.
