Over the years that I have lived here, I've planted many trees and shrubs
That will provide food and cover for birds. In the summer I don't put out feeders, and I am particularly pleased when I find birds flocking to a native food source.

Today, word must have gone out that the fruit on the old black gum tree, growing behind the pond, was ripe. (Not one I planted, but it is on my list.)
Over a dozen catbirds came to eat the fruit, joined by both a Swainsons and a gray-cheeked thrush (nice to see them close together to compare) robins, a scarlet tanager, red-bellied woodpeckers, and a brown thrasher. Also in the canopy nearby were red-eyed vireos and one philadelphia, a rose-breasted grosbeak and several warblers. (Tennessee, bay breasted, magnoloa, and blackpoll.)

Also heard a carolina wren in the understory and saw my first fall ruby crowned kinglet.

I didn't get any farther then this one active spot, but I probably missed some of the warbler movement. When I first went out this morning, there was a lot of activity in the sunlit top branches of the remaining elm, but hard to see and moved off quickly.
