I birded Wecht Rd in extreme east Wayne county just south of Dalton. Its a
great un-mowed grass field with fence posts all around. Wecht Rd
(un-signed!) only goes one country block, so little traffic. Walk along the
road at mid-morning and birds are up singing and perched on fence posts and
sapling oaks along the fence row. A scope is good to allow you to see the
birds on the fence posts before getting close enough to spook them.

Saw 4 dickcissels well singing from the small oaks and fence posts. Perched
on the fence posts were 2 grasshopper sparrows, at least 6 savannah
sparrows and 2-3 meadowlarks. Bobolink males were flying over the grass
field with their bubbly calls and then dropping into the grass. Certainly a
delightful way to spend an hour in the cool of the morning. Randy Rowe,
Wooster
