The Columbus Audubon trip to areas in the forest block around the north end
of this long reservoir found few migrants this morning, but plenty of
prospecting and territorial resident birds. We stopped at Howard Rd boat
launch, Hogback Road, and Hogback Preserve, and I made a short stop at Big
Run Rd on the return trip. There were no concentrations of migrants, but a
steady stream of singing resident birds made up for that; Hogback Rd was
especially productive. Notables included:

Broad-winged Hawk - 1 along Oxbow Rd was more likely a stray than a late
migrant.
Osprey - the 4 nest platforms along Hogback Rd were occupied, so Osprey
were quite abundant
Cuckoos - calling Yellow-billed were at Hogback Rd and Big Run Rd

Flycatchers - plenty of Acadians and Wood Pewees here, but also had a
migrant Yellow-bellied along Hogback Rd, and E.Kingbirds at several
locations

Vireos - not surprisingly, Red-eyed were abundant, but we also found
White-Eyed (Hogback Rd), Yellow-throated, and Warbling

Thrushes - singing Wood Thrushes were at several spots, but no migrants
were found

Warblers - the Prothonotaries along Hogback Rd put on quite a show
contesting a nest box with Tree Swallows. Other warblers found included
Parula, Blue-winged, Yellow, Redstart, Yellow-throated, Hooded,
ComYellowthroat, LaWaterthrushes (both Hogback Rd and Hogback Preserve)

Tanagers - both Scarlets and Summers were singing and calling along Hogback
Rd and at Hogback Preserve

Grosbeaks,Buntings - Indigo Buntings were at all stops, and singing
Rose-breasted Grosbeaks were heard at Hogback Rd and Big Run Rd

Orioles - only Baltimores, but they were at every stop, though not numerous
PurpleFinch - a late bird was singing at Hogback Preserve, a typical
wintering location
