What we have dubbed “THE PERRY COUNTY WILDS”, is a reclaimed strip mine area just north of new Lexington called the Rehoboth reclamation area. These birds were specifically on Pole Cat Road at the north edge of the area. There were easily 200 of them, with only a few of them identified as horned larks. Also two harriers and one rough legged hawk.
This was quite a show, more than I’ve ever seen in my total birding life. Thanks for the heads up from another local birder, Renee, for alerting us to these birds.
