A long drive for me, but I wasn’t about to bird on foot in this brutal cold and
Wind! So car birding! I wasn’t after Longspur. In fact, that wasn’t on my radar.
I usually need snow covered fields to push the birds to the road edges. I got
Lucky. Saw the Horned Larks in flight. They landed somewhat close! I scanned.
And got a Longspur! 207 for the big year. 210 is doable! I think…..
I was after the Collared dove that’s been around for a couple weeks. No success!
And no Harrier, cranes, etc. I hit Hueston Woods Dam and watched the for cranes
And Bonies. Nope. Just crows around.
Red Crossbill notes - a friend had some at the Hueston Woods beach - Preble -
This morning! They are around! Hit those pine areas! I might on Saturday here
In Hamilton. Spring Grove. Or chase that Iceland Gull in Licking. That’s an Ohio
Bird for me. I missed scanning for one a couple years ago up on Lake Erie in
The winter.
Nature notes - it’s going to get really cold overnight down here! But warming
Up after a day. Not sure that will bring in any waterfowl for us?
Good birding all.
