Anne Bailey (family studies and social work) was interviewed about her
research that shows Ohio's living wage-the level of income at which a
family can sustain itself adequately without governmental assistance-is
three times higher than the minimum wage.

Jack Rhodes (executive director, Hamilton campus) was elected vice
president of the Greater Hamilton Convention and Visitors Bureau's board of
trustees.

Charlotte Observer, Wednesday, April 21
Larry Garloch (alumnus) has funneled his 25 years of basketball coaching
experience into a new business called Hoops Help.  He offers one-on-one
lessons, group clinics, and camps to help children and teens hone their
basketball skills.

Dayton Daily News, Wednesday, April 21
Aaron Wright of Miami University's Health and Enhancement Program will be
the featured speaker at the Miami Valley Farmers Union's annual meeting.

Butler-Warren Business Journal, Friday, April 2
Major sporting events like the NCAA basketball tournament can bring in some
extra cash for universities, but how lucrative is the business year-round?
According to Richard Keebler (director of business services), sports teams'
"exposure" drive the market.  Miami University generates about $100,000 per
year from its licensed apparel, with 204 licenses.

Collette Jacobs (Miami alumna) and Becky Harris, who formed HarrisJacobs
Co.,  were among six Toledo-area residents who received a Milestone
Achievement Award this year.  The awards recognize women in northwest Ohio
who have demonstrated outstanding leadership and have opened doors for
other women to reach their potential.  Also, one of their publications,
Toledo Area Parent News, was named one of the top three publications of its
kind in the country last year.

Thirty-one McAuley High School mathematics student attended the eighth
annual Sonia Kovalevsky Mathematical Sciences Day at Miami University.

Central State University President John Garland on Tuesday asked state
lawmakers for a $3 million annual increase to prepare teachers for urban
schools and boost enrollment.

The Cincinnati Post, Monday, April 19
Even though Florida State professor Glayde Whitney has long believed that
blacks are generally less intelligent than whites and has expressed his
views in academic papers, it wasn't until he wrote the foreword for a book
by former Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke that the campus seemed to notice.

More than 100 protesters denounce Princeton University on Saturday for
hiring a philosopher whose controversial views include allowing parents to
end the lives of their severely disabled infants.
