There was a pretty decent movement of birds today. Winds were strong and some birds were struggling to fly. Bonaparte's gulls were pretty hard to look though. They were heading east and were swirling all around rather than flying directly. One little gull was seen amongst them. There could have been more, but looking through them was hard. Other good birds today were a Pomarine jaeger. It caused a bit of commotion with the Bonaparte's gulls. Other good birds were surf and black scoters and blue-winged teal. I don't see too many blue-winged teal on the open lake Location- Lakeshore Reservation, North Perry, Lake County Date- October 29, 2006, Time- 6:30-9:00 Weather- Partly cloudy, Winds- NW 25-35+ Temperature- 45-46 F, Barometer- 29.65-29.73 Humidity- 61-60, Dew point- 32-33 Waves- 12-15 ft, Flight direction- west, Bonaparte's gulls and loons east Gadwall 8 American black duck 6 Mallard 24 BLUE-WINGED TEAL 1 Northern pintail 4 Green-winged teal 16 Redhead 23 Ring-necked duck 12 Greater scaup 26 Lesser scaup 315 Scaup spp 304 SURF SCOTER 7 BLACK SCOTER 6 Bufflehead 3 Hooded merganser 2 Common merganser 1 Red-breasted merganser 346 Ruddy duck 1 Common loon 14 Horned grebe 3 Double-crested cormorant 1 POMARINE JAEGER 1 LITTLE GULL 1 adult Bonaparte's gull 1082 Ring-billed gull 1411 Herring gull 88 Great black-backed gull 5 Forster's tern 2 John Pogacnik 4765 Lockwood Road Perry, OH 44081 440-259-2751 ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
