I have been feeding goldfinches thistleseed all summer long. The last week of September a goldfinch showed up and was displaying "begging" for food behavior towards another goldfinch. The other goldfinch (presumably female) obliged by feeding it thistleseed. I never saw the "begger" feed on its own, but waited to be fed. Sometimes they would depart the feeder together, but other times separately. Since goldfinches nest late (and renest even later), I didn't think at the time that this was overly unusual. HOWEVER, 3 weeks later, the above behavior is still being observed. I was just wondering if anyone has ever seen this long of an extended parent/offspring behavior in goldfinches or for that matter, any other small passerine/finch?
