Hey all - After a better-than-expected outing to Richfield grasslands this morning, I decided to give Dike 14 a run-through. There were good numbers of migrants about, but nothing truly unusual. Some good concentrations were 4 Orange-crowned Warblers and 120 White-crowned Sparrows. I haven't had much luck here this year, with everything so grown up and unmanaged. Just a quick note about this morning's LeConte's. I staked out this area out last fall as a potential LeConte's spot. It was late in the season so I vowed to return this fall and today marked my third visit this October - each time wearing rubber boots and wading through the vegetation. Today, it paid off - after flushing the bird close to a dozen times, I finally got it to sit up and give a prolonged look (probably close to a minute - absolutely breathtaking). They are unmistakeable in flight, however. Just goes to show if you find the habitat and show persistence, the birds will come. Good birding - Gabe Leidy Hinckley __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo!
