Thanks, Ned! Manon Van Schoyck Licking County www.ohionature.org ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ned Keller" <[log in to unmask]> To: <[log in to unmask]> Sent: Friday, October 13, 2006 8:48 AM Subject: [Ohio-birds] The New Mailing List Welcome to the new Ohio-birds mailing list. Since you’re reading this message, it must be up and working! As far as reading messages, you shouldn’t notice much in the way of changes. One change is that the subject line will begin with a marker, [Ohio-birds] , that will make it obvious that the message is coming from this mailing list. To send a message to the list, address it to [log in to unmask] and not to the old address, [log in to unmask], which won’t work any more. Other than the address change, posting messages to the list will work just as it always has. You won’t notice the biggest difference in the two lists unless you want to change settings, such as whether you get individual messages or one big message a day, whether you get copies of the messages you send to the list, etc. The old list was run by the mailman program, and the new list is run by the listserv program. If you’re comfortable with using listserv commands, send them to [log in to unmask] For everyone else, you can configure how you receive messages by going to the web site at http://listserv.muohio.edu/scripts/wa.exe?LIST=OHIO-BIRDS (capitalization matters here). Click on the link that says “Join or leave the list (or change settings)” and then fill in the form on the next screen. I want to thank Miami University for hosting our new mailing list. I would particularly like to thank two people there: Mark Boardman, the Director of the Institute of Environmental Sciences, is our list sponsor, which means that he was the person responsible for getting us permission to get this list started at Miami. And Bill Heck, also a staff member at Miami and long-time member of OOS, is the person who actually got the job done, by taking the initiative of finding us a sponsor and doing the rest of the administrative grunt work. Thanks to you both! -- -- Ned Keller [log in to unmask] ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
