I hit Rocky River Park and Bradstreet's Landing on the Lake Erie shore yesterday to see what sorts of waterfowl were passing through. To the west of Rocky River Park, I had a big, tight raft of mostly Red Breasted Mergansers. I'd estimate there were between 2-300 of them. Mixed in were a handful (10-14) of Bufflehead and 2 Common Loons. At first, the flock was close enough for good scope viewing, but something spooked them and they all flew off west. At Bradstreet's Landing I had another loon, and the same raft I saw down the road drifted in fairly close to the east end of the beach, but some guy with a dog frightened them back out into the distance. No luck with the jaegers yet, and surprisingly, the only semi-unusual gull I spotted was a Great Black-Backed. -Leslie Basalla Cleveland _________________________________________________________________ MSN Shopping has everything on your holiday list.
