Wow, word travels fast!! I put my report up on the local rare bird alert by phone, and in this forum, and in less than 30 minutes had the REAL identification solved. Many, many thanks to all who have scrutinized the pictures and descriptions. Turns out "my" loon was a Red-throated Loon. Still a life bird, but I apologize for throwing up the red alert flag. I was mistaken in thinking that Yellow-billed was the ONLY loon with the upturned-appearing bill. My bird was much more petite, and had a much more delicate bill, in retrospect. Thanks again for all your help....quite an exciting find for me (and I got my nemesis Fox Sparrow, NOT mis-identified, hehe, at Killbuck's Carrie Lane parking area).
