Kim, Mark, Bob, Connie and I got good looks at the red necked grebe from
11am-1pm Saturday -- he was quite curious about a small log and a Styrofoam
block in the water and would swim over to investigate both from time to
time, also swimming under the line of docks and then venturing out. Kim got
a few reasonably good high-res pictures with her 400MM lens and 1.4X Canon
extender. Easy in bins, but a scope helps a lot.

Also counted 18 common loons in one strung-out group swimming around the
western end of Dike 14.

Otherwise, the usual gang of Bonaparte's gulls diving like so many hundreds
of terns, and the other usual gulls. A pair of Marine-marked C-131
transports making low-level practice runs over the lakefront and onward to
points east kept the noon hour lively.
