Working in downtown Cleveland I've seen my share of window strikes over the years. Today's,
however, was a first. Lying on sidewalk of E. 9th Street, just south of Euclid, was a horned grebe. It
had the typical broken-neck look of a window strike, however, there seemed to be an excessive
amount of blood on the bird and sidewalk. I wonder if this bird had possibly been the victim of an
encounter with a Peregrine Falcon. I could see no bite or tear marks and all of its feathers appeared
to be in place. Bird forensics -- a new field of study.
