Yesterday afternoon after posting the jaeger sighting from Lakewood Park
I took a late trip to Rocky River Park. Within about ten minutes of
arrival I had a juvenile jaeger come through heading west; a short time
later it returned heading east and disappeared. I'm guessing it was
Parasitic, but once or twice I thought I caught a double flash on the
underwing, so possibly a Pomarine.

Later all the mergansers out by Bradstreet Landing came over en masse,
and with them was a bird that looked different in flight. Fortunately
it separated from the flock and set down right by the shore and I was
able to confirm my suspicion that it was the Oldsquaw (or Long-tailed
duck) that had been reported at the park in recent days.

Another couple located a Surf scoter and pointed it out to me, and in
return I noted a lone American wigeon amongst the mergs.

Loons and grebes were very much in evidence at this location as well
Saturday afternoon.

Good birding.
