-- I'm home for the holidays and was able to get up to Lake Erie yesterday. I saw more TUNDRA SWANS at Ottawa NWR than I have seen in all my life times ten! I counted, conservatively, 1175, ~98% in the outer basin, which I believe is the mouth of Crane Creek(?). There were another 48 at Magee Marsh. There were also 5 MUTE SWANS at Ottawa. I couldn't find any Trumpeters, although many of the swans in the large group were sleeping and one or more could have been among them. There was not much in the way of duck diversity: MALLARDS, BLACK DUCKS, GADWALL, single COMMON GOLDENEYES at each place and a group of ~50 COMMON MERGANSERS at Ottawa. Other birds seen included 2 WINTER WRENS at Magee, an adult BALD EAGLE about 2 miles east of the entrance to Magee along Route 2, 2 GREAT BLACK-BACKED GULLS (1 ad., 1 1st winter), a NORTHERN HARRIER and 3 DUNLIN all at Ottawa.
