This morning at 8:30, John Kuenzli, Dan Sanders, and I had exceptional looks at the WESTERN TANAGER in Grandview Heights (right at the corner of where Fairview curves into Merrick). The tanager originally gave away its presence when it arrived by giving a repeated 2-note "pick-pick" call. The call initially reminded me of Carolina Wren chatter. The bird hung around at eye-level eating honeysuckle berries for 15 to 20 minutes. The specific location of the honeysuckle shrub is on the east side of Fairview behind some chain-link fencing, just north of the curve with Merrick. As described yesterday by Casey Tucker, the bird flew to the south heading towards the apartment high-rise off Goodale Blvd. The location can be reached by taking 5th Avenue to Grandview Ave. Go south on Grandview Ave until you get to 1st Ave. Take a right (west) on 1st Ave and go two blocks until you get to Fairview Ave. Go south on Fairview, which will eventually curve into Merrick. Good luck everyone! Aaron Boone Columbus, Ohio ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
