I made one more try for the NORTHERN SHRIKE at Deer Creek this afternoon, and was rewarded. The bird was hanging out in the area previously reported, affording me quite good looks before it flew off to the northeast. I saw several other good birds in the area of Deer Creek. They include: - ROSS'S GOOSE (2) - mixed with Canada Geese off the beach. - SANDHILL CRANE (9) - I saw these flying west of Rt. 207. They were heading west. - AMERICAN WHITE PELICAN (1) - This lone bird was flying around south end of the reservior, circling around. I haven't seen this bird reported recently, and I feel like it's been around for quite a while now. - GOLDEN EAGLE (1) - I first spotted this bird as I was driving south on Rt. 207, west of the reservior. I followed it for a few miles as it headed south. Three times I was able to get out and scope the bird before it finally disappeared to the southeast, south of the reservior. It was a classic juvenile bird with bright white flares in the wings and a white base of the tail. I saw the cranes, pelican, and eagle as I was driving south on Rt. 207 within a 5-minute, 1 mile span. Combine that with the Ross's Geese and Northern Shrike and Columbus Western Tanager I saw this morning, I just had a GREAT day!
