Hello Fellow Ohio Birders! I just wanted to share a somewhat rare sighting in Lake Erie today and it was my 1st. While visiting the Marblehead Lighthouse in Ottawa County we observed a pair of Harlequin ducks (Male and female) approximately 20 feet from shore diving/foraging along the rocky shoreline in Lake Erie. At first glance we thought they were female Buffleheads, but we watched them for several minutes and concluded they could only be Harlequins due to the unique markings. Though the male didn't seem as brilliant as I would expect, but this may have been the lighting or perhaps an immature or not in breeding best? Enjoy!
