I took interest in Chris Spagnoli's most mentioning hybridizing large gulls. I found a lone greater black back this morning on a pier off of Rocky River Park. He was being his usual docile self sitting on the end. He then rose and strutted down the pier and took an interest in a single herring gull. Both birds demonstrated courting behavior touching bills and bowing. He stretched his neck and began calling then the herring joined him with neck stretched. I never heard a black back call before. They have a low call for a gull almost like a goose honk. I'll be looking for strange looking gull chicks in the Spring.

good sightings to all
