Howdy All, My first bird of the day yesterday was an American Robin. How appropriate for an early spring-like January 1! To start my attempt for 100 birds in January in Ohio, I started at Camp Dennison, went to East Fork State Park, and ended the day at Deer Creek State Park. Bird number 53 for the day was the NORTHERN SHRIKE just to the right/south of the beach entry road at about 4:00 pm. On November 11, I first saw this bird originally reported by Bob Royse at the same location also at 4:00 pm. According to Bob's recent post, 4:00 pm is a good time of day. My last bird of the day was number 54, the AMERICAN WHITE PELICAN at the boat launch on the west side of the lake north of the dam. The pelican was feeding in the rapidly decreasing light. A good start for the first day of the year for January Listing, Ohio and Year lists with 54 birds. At first light today, there was a Killdeer on the beach at Caesar Creek State Park for number 55.
