This afternoon I Made a quick circuit of Hoover Reservoir to see what's arrived. Most of the waterfowl I located were at the north end of the reservoir around Oxbow Island, the cove at Dustin Road and the inlets along the east shoreline. Hooded Mergansers were found in most places I stopped. Their numbers are increasing daily. Northern Shovelers were located at Oxbow and near Pelican Island but the numbers were low at both locations. There were a small number of Ruddy Ducks at Oxbow Road. Pied-billed Grebes were found at both Oxbow and Dustin Roads, but only a few at each location. A lone Herring Gull was nestled among the numerous Ring-billed Gulls on the floating dock off the dam parking area. A few Great Blue Herons were scattered along the shore in several locations and Belted Kingfishers were seen at Area I and Oxbow Road. The best birds of the day were 3 adult and 2 immature Bald Eagles. One adult and one immature were at Oxbow Island, One immature was at Wiese Road and the other two adults were located near the Smothers Road bridge, one on the north side and the other just south the bridge.
