Today Linda and I couldn't resist the nice weather so we took advantage of it to go birding at the preserve. It was the first birding day of 2007 for Linda (my 3rd). Highlights included 2 adult Bald Eagles at Wiese Road and 1 immature Bald Eagle at Old Sunbury Road. Waterfowl variety was low with most of our sightings from the knoll at the north end of Oxbow island. From this vantage point we observed Common Goldeneyes, Hooded Mergansers, Horned Grebes and Pied-billed Grebes. At Hoover Meadows there were many Swamp Sparrows, Eastern Bluebirds, Northern Flickers and a Red-shouldered Hawk. Old Sunbury Road was flush with Golden-crowned Kinglets along most of its length and we had a Barred Owl in the pine grove.
